Dean's Decree No. 06/2023 - FORMAL ARRANGEMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY QUALIFICATION THESES

specifies and supplements the Rector's Decree No. 2/2023 according to Article 6, paragraph 7, which regulates the rules for the creation and uniform editing of the written parts of bachelor's, master's and dissertation theses at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU). It further specifies the deadlines and the method of assigning and submitting university qualification theses and graduation performances.

1. FORMAL ARRANGEMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY QUALIFICATION THESIS

The requirements of the written form of the written bachelor's thesis, master's thesis and doctoral dissertation, a copy of which the student submits to the department on the deadline for submission of the thesis.

2. MODIFICATION OF THE HARDCOVER COPY OF THE WRITTEN WORK

(a) Binding of the written qualifying work

Students are advised that from the academic year 2022/2023 onwards, the CD with the work is no longer inserted and the Acknowledgement of Submission of Material Substrate is no longer submitted.

3. DEADLINES AND METHOD OF SUBMISSION OF BACHELOR'S, MASTER'S AND DOCTORAL THESES

a) The student shall submit the university qualification thesis (bachelor's, diploma or dissertation) via the KOS information system no later than the specified deadline:

(i) up to and including 30 April, for the June deadline for the SFE

(ii) up to and including 15 April, for the June deadline for the SDE

(iii) up to and including 30 June for the September dates for the SFE and the SDE

b) The student shall fill in the prescribed data in the KOS information system at the latest when submitting the thesis:

(i) translation of the title of the thesis into English

ii) abstract in Czech and English

iii) keywords


Next, the student uploads the qualification thesis in PDF format and locks it using the "Confirm submission" button in the KOS section called "State examinations" -> "Bachelor, diploma and dissertation theses" -> "Diploma thesis". If the student uses graphs, photographs, notation, other graphic elements or audio video files in his/her thesis, he/she attaches these to the other parts to form one data file in PDF format with them.

c) The date of uploading the undergraduate qualification thesis to the KOS system is also the date of submission.

d) The student is responsible for the submission of both the paper and the electronic form of the qualification thesis and for the accuracy and completeness of the thesis files uploaded to the student information system and their consistency with the paper form of the thesis submitted.

e) Students shall submit a copy of the bachelor's thesis or diploma thesis with all the prescribed formalities to the secretariat of the relevant department no later than the deadline for the submission of the qualifying thesis during current office hours. The required number of copies will be determined by the head of the department, including the possibility of submitting a ring-bound copy of the qualifying thesis, but there is an obligation to submit at least one hard-bound copy (the copy for archiving in the HAMU library is handed over by the department to the library after the defence).

f) Students must submit a copy of the dissertation to the study department during current office hours in triplicate, of which one copy must be bound in hardcover (the copy to be archived is handed over by the secretary of the OR to the HAMU library after the defence). The chairman of the departmental board may determine the possibility of submitting the remaining copies bound in a so-called ring binding. Together with the thesis, but no later than ten days before the date of the defence, the doctoral student submits the thesis (5-10 standard pages) to the KOS information system and printed to the study department.

g) If the day of submission of the undergraduate qualifying thesis copy is a day of rest, it shall be submitted on the first working day following the deadline for submission of the qualifying thesis.

4. ASSIGNMENT OF UNDERGRADUATE QUALIFYING THESES (BACHELOR'S, MASTER'S THESES AND DOCTORAL DISSERTATIONS)

a) The assignment of the written thesis on a printed form generated from the KOS shall be submitted by the students of the 2nd year of Bachelor's studies and the 1st year of continuing Master's studies to the secretariat of the relevant department no later than 31 May of the year preceding the year of graduation.

b) The draft assignment of the written qualification thesis shall be filled in by the student in the KOS information system in the KOS section called "State Examinations"-> "Bachelor's, Master's and Dissertation Theses" -> "Thesis Type A - Theoretical Thesis".

i) title of the qualification thesis in Czech and English (subtitle can be entered)

ii) the topic of the qualification thesis in the form of an annotation (the topic must correspond to the study programme studied)

iii) the language of the qualification thesis according to the study programme (for a programme in Czech language, Czech language, Slovak language is also possible, for a programme in English language, English language)

iiii) name of the supervisor of the qualification thesis (this is a student's proposal, approved by the dean)



c) The student approaches the teacher, usually the teacher's supervisor, asks him/her to supervise his/her university qualification thesis (bachelor's/diploma) and consults with him/her the topic and the title of the thesis. The teacher agrees to supervise the thesis, including the topic and title, by signing the printed assignment form. The student then affixes his/her signature to the assignment form and submits it to the department.

d) The assignment form for the bachelor's/diploma thesis is approved by the dean with his/her signature on the proposal of the head of the department.

e) In the case of performance programmes, the Head of the Department of Music Theory shall also comment on the topic and title of the Bachelor's/Diploma thesis on the assignment form.

f) The title of the Bachelor's/Diploma thesis may be changed until 15 April of the year of graduation for the SFE in June, or 15 June of the year of graduation for the SFE in September, only with the approval of the supervisor of the qualifying thesis. Consent for the change of title shall be completed on the appropriate form* see Annex 2 of the Decree and submitted to the Departmental Secretariat.

g) The doctoral thesis assignment is entered by the doctoral student into the KOS information system; the deadlines for any change of the title of the thesis are governed by the SZR, the AMU internal regulations, the faculty timetable and the current Dean's decree on doctoral studies. The assignment is approved by the dean on the recommendation of the departmental board, including the supervisor and at least two opponents (the opponents are proposed by the guarantor of the study programme).

5. SUPERVISORS AND OPPONENTS OF QUALIFICATION THESES AND DEFENCE

a) The thesis supervisor and opponent shall be appointed by the Dean on the recommendation of the Head of the Department. The student is obliged to inform the thesis supervisor of his/her progress and to consult his/her thesis regularly. The supervisor of the qualifying thesis/graduation performance shall provide the student with continuous consultation on the content and methodological support in the preparation of the qualifying thesis and graduation performance.

b) The thesis supervisor and the opponent shall prepare written evaluations* of the bachelor's and master's theses, as well as written evaluations of the graduate performance in case of implementation, and shall enter them into the KOS information system at least three working days before the date of the defence.

c) The supervisor and at least two opponents shall prepare written opinions* on the dissertation and the graduate performance, if applicable, and enter them into the KOS information system no later than seven working days before the date of the defence. Other obligations, appointments, etc. are regulated by the AMU SZR, AMU internal regulations and the current Dean's Decree on Doctoral Programmes of Study.

d) In the Rector's Decree No. 2/2023, the models of thesis reports for the supervisor and the opponent are published in Annexes 3 and 5; the models of dissertation reports for the supervisor and the opponent are published in Annexes 4 and 6.

6. TRANSITIONAL AND FINAL PROVISIONS

1. This Decree, including Annexes 1 and 2, shall be effective upon signature by the Dean and shall be effective on the date of issue.

2. Together with the entry into force of this Decree, the provisions of Article 9, paragraph 6 of the Dean's Decree No. 11/2020 shall not apply to the requirements of the qualifying (dissertation) thesis during the period of its validity.
